F430 Scuderia Vector Art

A close up detail of a Ferrari 430 Scuderia. A completly vector based rendering done in Adobe Illustrator on a Macintosh.
Originally shot at the dealership in Woodbridge Ontario, I liked the reflections of the large windows on the surface of the car and tried to replicate this, at the same time simplifying them - removing light pole reflections and one of myself! Colours were altered a tad to brighten the car and i darkened the floor substantially to give better contrast to the yellow bodywork.
The most timeconsuming part was the projector beam lens and turnsignal. Alot going on there when you begin to break it down.

Merry Christmas

The three kings open up SO much opportunity for Ferrari humour...
Merry Christmas to all... and a safe and prosperous 2011.

Metal Art: Ferrari GTO

Art designed in Adobe Illustrator. A friend in the states has a plasma cutter that can read the file and cut the image. After finishing the surface he constructs a frame to which it is attached. He ships it back to me and I assemble the abstract canvas background. A Ferrari Sharknose is already uploaded earlier.
The first pic is the Adobe Illustrator file... A graphic representation that stands on its own. The trick to these is not having any bits of soon-to-be-cut-metal defy laws of gravity and end up floating in midair. Everything has to attach somehow. Can be tricky when dealing with details the car is known for and has to be in certain positions. Sometimes some creative solutions have to occur...
The second pic is the metal version with a canvas background. Been thinking of redoing this one with one reminiscent of the Sharknose. Solid red with a bit a colour swiped through it.

TR on Yorkville

TR on Yorkville
18x24
Ink & Watercolour on Yupo

My second painting from the Exotics in Yorkville car show back in July. A great event with the Ferrari and Porsche clubs. And a great turnout! Hope it returns next year.
Altered quite a bit... got rid of those ugly barriers and safety cones; changed the 360 spider from red to yellow and a myriad of other details.

Mondial Detail

Mondial Detail
Vector Computer Graphic
Adobe Illustrator on Macintosh
A rendering of the air intake on the Mondial. The 4-seater Ferrari of the late 70s and 80s. It went thru a change of size and shape over the years but is a symbol of the peppy "family Ferrari".

Timeless Fans

Timeless Fans
Photography

A shot taken at a recent Ontario DeLorean Owners Club meet. The time machine from Back to the Future draws smiles from children and adults alike. A true icon of pop culture.
This shot i felt embodies the magnetism that this vehicle - an amazing recreation of the Time Machine by a die hard fan - has on people.

Curves

"Curves"
Vector image
Adobe Illustrator on a Mac
A little experimenting with Adobe Illustrator again. Trying to use the minimalist approach and just pick the large basic forms with only the necessary details...
something a tad different from me... but i like experimenting with new ideas.

Open Doors DMC

New Work: Open Doors DMC
Photoshop
A work using a shot of a friend's DMC-12 DeLorean.
Variety of filters, primarily Posterization. And alot of touching up.
I wanted a square composition from the start. And something unusual that featured the doors. So cropped out most of the car, finding an angle that still showed the logo and had the doors up. Found one that fit the bill and lent itself well to the idea.
Enjoy!

White TR

New Work! Returned to Adobe Illustrator on my iMac and created a vector image of a detail of a white Ferrari Testarossa. A small section with the door seam through those iconic 80s cheese-grater strakes. I'd love to get a large canvas print of this.

Short Series of a 1969 Corvette L88

Finished up a short series of paintings for a client/owner of a 1969 Corvette L88. The first and only one of 3 imported to Canada. Two watercolours on Yupo and an oil on canvas.
"L88 Vette 1"
23.5 x17.5 inches
Watercolour and Ink
Decided to go larger than planned and highlite the badging in the composition. Went thru a bit of a metamorphisis at the planning stage and altered the background colouring along the way, but am really pleased with the outcome.

L88 Vette #2
Ink and Watercolour
16 x 12 inches
One of favourite shots from my photoshoot of the L88. Kept the same flavour and colouring as the larger sister-painting.

"L88 Vette Yellow on Yellow"
36 x 36 inches
Oil on Canvas
Again as with the Blue Cobra, the pallet knife was used alot, moreso this time with large brushes to get the myriad of yellow tones on the surface of the fibreglass... didnt want to niggle with details here... not the intent with my paintings like this... Big and Bold was the methodology here!

Virtual Paintout: March: Stavanger Norway

Here is my sketch for Stavanger Norway.

Virtual Paintout Feb. San Francisco / Jan. Corsica

Virtual Paintout is a blog/facebook site that i started to contribute to.
Using GoogleMaps Streetview an artist can sketch anywhere in the world. A location is given on the first of the month and one can send up to three works to be added to the blog and on Facebook. A fun (and ingenious) way of sketching a vast array of subject. Some people do full complete paintings.. i just do quick 45-60 minute sketches... so far ink with watercolour on Yupo.
February was San Francisco Bay Area so, naturally, Ferrari of San Francisco fit the bill...

I will throw in the previous month here as well... Corsica.

Cobra in Blue

Left Ferrari for a week or so (yes, i know... the world kept spinning and the space-time continuum didnt implode) in order to tackle 2 or 3 Cobra paintings. One major piece (see above) and 2 smaller watercolours. I have been approached to supply some artwork for the Canadian International Auto Show - part of a presentation for Carrol Shelby. Hence... the Cobra paintings.
This one is a 36x36 oil on canvas in a very painterly style, the car done mostly with a pallet knife. Similar to a P4 painting i did a couple years ago. Exciting style to do, as it forces you to concentrate on the major forms of the subject... distilling it down to its most recognizable features and shapes.
